Chhatrapati Shri Shivaji Maharaj Kridangan – Protecting Youth Spaces

The Chhatrapati Shri Shivaji Maharaj Kridangan (Sports Ground) is a vital public space for youth development, sports, and community activities in Kondhwa–Kausar Baugh. Despite the land being reserved for a sports ground, long delays and inaction had stalled its development, depriving local youth of a much-needed facility.

Recognizing the importance of preserving and developing this space, Sameer Shafi Pathan, as President of Nagrik Adhikar Manch, took a firm stand to ensure that the reservation was honored and utilized for its intended purpose. When repeated requests failed to bring results, he undertook a hunger strike as a peaceful and democratic form of protest, drawing attention to the issue and highlighting the urgency of developing the sports ground for the community.

Alongside the protest, months of continuous follow-up, official correspondence, and multiple representation letters to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) were pursued to push the matter forward. This sustained effort and public accountability finally led to a breakthrough — funds were officially allotted for the development of the sports ground.

Following the allocation of funds, development work at Chhatrapati Shri Shivaji Maharaj Kridangan commenced, marking a major victory for youth, sports enthusiasts, and residents of the area. This achievement stands as a testament to determined civic leadership and the belief that public spaces meant for community growth must be protected and developed, not neglected.
